As a new composite materials, the fiberglass rod is mainly made from fiber glass and resin by the pultrusion process. Due to the excellent physical and chemical properties, fiberglass rods are widely used in different areas. For example, the outdoor support, the agricultural arch hoop and the driveway marker. The usage in the curtain system is one of the application scenarios.

Small diameter fiberglass rods are hidden supports behind Roman shade fabric. They’re not for hanging, but for the horizontal lining inserted into the curtain fabric to support the every fold is neat when the shade moves up and down.

The small diameter is 2.0mm 2.5mm 3mm 3.5mm,4mm and any length is ok.

There are three main Roman shade types, and fiberglass rods have different function in them.

1. Manual cord Roman shades

Rods keep folds straight. Without them, soft fabric sags and folds get crooked when pulling cords. These thin fiberglass rods add no extra weight and stay straight.

2. Semi-auto double self-lowering Roman shades

This type of roman shades will slide down as soon as it’s released. It needs balanced weight and friction.

Fiberglass rods are light, with consistent size and straightness. They keep the shade drop smoothly.

3. Motorized Roman shades

Lighter rods mean less load on the motor, less noise and lower power use.

Fiberglass rods offer strong support with light weight. They are anti-oxidation and won’t interfere with motor signals for long reliable use.

Different shade styles:

- Folding Roman shades: Each fold need a fiberglass rod. So it’s the most use demand.

- Fan / wave Roman shades: Few rods, usually for weighted bottom and keep fabric shape.

Compare with metal rods:

• Aluminum rods: Thin ones bend easily

• Iron rods: Heavy and easy to rusty

• Fiberglass rods: Light, flexible, rust-free — the best choice.
